Flat and house sharing
http://www.holborncollege.ac.uk/images/spacer.gif
This is accommodation found through private landlords. The Accommodation Officer cannot book this for you since you will need to go and see places yourself, meet the landlord and tenants, and sign a contract, usually for six months or so. You will need to be in Birmingham to find a room - it cannot be done from abroad.

A flat or house share consists of a single bedroom, or sometimes a twin or double, in a flat or house where you will share common facilities such as kitchen, bathroom and lounge with other tenants. Bills are shared between all members. The prices vary greatly according to the property and area but are generally around £65 - £100 per week. You would normally be required to pay one month's rent in advance plus another month as deposit.

For this kind of accommodation you will need somewhere temporary to stay for a couple of weeks while you look. The Accommodation Officer can book short-term accommodation for you if you return the application form and payment with at least one week's notice before your arrival. Please click here for a short-term application form. [...............]

The Accommodation Officer is happy to provide advice and information on private renting, and will check contracts before you sign. An accommodation list of rooms available in the area can be collected from Student Services. Please click here for an information guide on private rented accommodation, including different types, how to find it, council tax and local estate agents.[.........] A guide is also available on housing rights for tenants; please click here.[...............]
